Copper Phone Lines (POTS) Are Being Decommissioned

The looming twilight of the copper phone line, often referred to as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), presents formidable challenges for buildings dependent on these antiquated connections, especially in areas housing crucial devices like elevator phones, fire alarm panels, building access systems, public safety phones, and fax machines.

The major providers of POTS lines in the United States have announced plans to speed this transition up. As a result, the rates for copper phone lines could rise by up to four times. Local exchange carriers are raising their prices to encourage organizations to transition to IP-based services.

Telecommunications companies are abandoning TDM agreements and halting investments in maintaining copper lines.
